Man Pleads Guilty to Driving Drunk, Causing Fatal Crash

157867210 (1)FALL RIVER, Mass. (AP) — A Massachusetts man has been sentenced to prison for driving drunk and causing a fatal crash on Interstate 195 last year.

Bristol County District Attorney Thomas Quinn says 63-year-old Robert Hansen, of Westport, pleaded guilty Friday to manslaughter by operating under the influence. He was sentenced to five to eight years behind bars.

Prosecutors say Hansen was speeding in Westport on Oct. 16, 2015, when he rammed into the back of a Toyota being driven by 73-year-old Geraldine Correia, of Dartmouth. The Toyota rolled over, and Correia was ejected from the vehicle. She was taken to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Prosecutors say Hansen was belligerent at the scene, spitting on one officer who arrested him. Numerous empty tequila bottles and beer cans were found in his car.
