Marathon Bomber’s Teachers Paint Picture of Hard-Working Kid

76800459BOSTON (AP) — Teachers who knew Boston Marathon bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev as a child say he was hard-working and seemed to have a bright future.

His third grade teacher testified Wednesday that Tsarnaev was just learning English after moving to the U.S. from Russia in 2002. She says he cared about his school work and “always wanted to do the right thing.”

Other teachers say he got nearly all As in his classes and made friends easily.

The testimony came during the third day of the defense case in the penalty phase of Tsarnaev’s trial. He was convicted earlier this month in the 2013 bombing that killed three people and injured more than 260.

The same jury must decide whether he’s sentenced to life in prison or receives the death penalty.
