MASHPEE – The Mashpee Wampanoag tribe was recently named one of 14 leaders in energy efficiency for 2015 by the Northeast Energy Efficiency Partnerships.

Cape Light Compact spokesperson Lindsay Henderson says the tribe’s Community and Government Center was what prompted the Compact to nominate them for the recognition.

“They had to follow a checklist of 13 points from the New Buildings Institute,” she said. “It’s got all sorts of efficiency improvements like lighting.”

The 46,000-square-foot facility hosts over 200 activities per month, according to the tribe.

The tribe received an incentive check in the amount of $72,795 from the Compact in April.

Members from the Mashpee Wampanoag tribe will receive an award in November at a ceremony in Bretton Woods, New Hampshire.
