Massachusetts State Budget Could Include $300,000 for Families with Substance-Exposed Infants

BOSTON–The Massachusetts state budget for the 2020 fiscal year could allocate $300,000 for a grant to aid families with infants exposed to substances such as opioids.

The amendment, sponsored by Senator Vinny deMacedo, would fund a program created in last year’s opioid bill.

Infants with Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome (NAS) suffer the same withdrawals of substances like opioids that adults might experience.

The 2020 fiscal budget is still awaiting final approval from Governor Charlie Baker.
