Nantucket to Launch E-voting at Spring Town Meeting

NANTUCKET – Residents on Nantucket will cast town meeting votes electronically in the spring.

The town will use e-voting devices from Option Technologies, which has equipped several communities across Massachusetts, including Eastham.

The devices will be provided at check in and feature “Yes,” “No” and “Clear” buttons.

After the moderator declares the final vote, results will be displayed about 30 seconds later.

The technology speeds up the voting process, is more accurate, and provides privacy.

The town manager’s office says the technology is well-vetted, simple, user friendly, and connected to a secure, private network.

The launch of the technology will allow Nantucket town meeting voters to try the e-voting and then provide feedback on future usage.
