New Bedford Whaling Museum to Close Bradford Retrospective with Symposium of “Inner Light”

NEW BEDFORD – A multifaceted event at the New Bedford Whaling Museum will highlight a retrospective exhibit of one of the town’s most famous 19th century painters and others like him.

“Inner Light: The World of William Bradford” on Saturday, April 8th from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. will feature several lectures on Bradford’s work, the influence he had on his contemporaries, and the northern lands and seas which inspired him.

Bradford was known for his travels to Greenland in the Arctic, where he painted textured landscapes and seascapes with a focus on brilliantly-lit scenes.

The event marks the impending closure in May of a Bradford retrospective. The museum is home to the world’s most comprehensive collection of the artist’s work, according to their records.

The symposium costs $25 for museum members and $35 for non-members.

Tickets are available at www.whalingmuseum.org.
