New Harwich Police Chief Guillemette Sworn In

Harwich Police SealHARWICH – A month after being selected to head the Harwich Police Department, David Guillemette has been sworn in as the town’s new Police Chief.

Guillemette worked for the Sandwich Police Department for 28 years before being tapped to replace former Police Chief Bill Mason, who retired.

Guillemette was sworn in during a ceremony on Monday performed by Town Clerk Anita Doucette with about 75 people in attendance.

Guillemette said he knew that he was the right fit for the position.

“The police department is very similar in size and makeup so it seemed like it would be a good fit for me, so I decided to go for it,” said Guillemette.

Guillemette knows that drugs will be a big issue he’ll face as the new Police Chief.

“Like every Cape community I think the major issues facing any community in this area are obviously probably number one is drugs,” said Guillemette. “They’ve got a good program going right now. I’m still in the process of getting the lay of the land but we’ll definitely be looking at that as one of the priorities.”
