New Hotel on Hyannis Harbor Gets Green Light

road construction02HYANNIS – A new 68-unit hotel is coming to the Hyannis waterfront.

After approval from the Barnstable Town Council in May, the Newport Hotel Group, which has formed a limited liability partnership called Harborview Hotel Group LLC, plan to break ground in the fall on a four-story building on Ocean Street.

The new hotel will be next to the existing hotel, the Hyannis Harbor Hotel, which is also owned by the Newport Hotel Group.

Barnstable Town Manager Tom Lynch said the owners are investing in Hyannis year round.

He said the investors have been talking to the town for more than a year about the proposal.

Twenty-six jobs are expected to be created by the new hotel.

“We’re very excited that we have a proprietor who knows the business and is willing to invest in a new hotel down on the waterfront,” he said.

Lynch said the investment group early on talked of having the hotel be year-round, in acknowledgement that visitors continue to come to the area in the fall, winter and spring.

“They felt the downtown Hyannis area has created a vibrant environment and see that this would be a worthwhile investment at this time,” he said.

The developers went through a lengthy regulatory process and during that process town officials sat down with them to negotiate certain things, like the four-story building, landscaping, parking and even the types of units which are going to be hotel efficiencies with kitchens.

That regulatory agreement then went before the town council.

“It just shows that we continue to have investment in our town,’ he said. “We’re very pleased they decided to invest here in the Hyannis waterfront.”
