NSTAR Prepares for Summer Spikes in Use

lightbulbsWith summer weather comes spikes in electricity usage and NSTAR, the Cape’s electricity supplier, is announcing upgrades to its service to prevent outages.

Electricity use on the Cape and throughout New England is historically at its highest during the summer months.

Hurricane season is also the time of year when more frequent storms could pose a threat to the electric grid.

NSTAR spokesperson Rhiannon D’Angelo said, the company is ready for the annual increase in electricity use during the summer months.

NSTAR just completed a four-year modernization of their grid, adding additional smart switches to the system.

The  new smart switches allow NSTAR to isolate outages and reroute power around them, sometimes without having to send crews out to the scene.
