PROVINCETOWN – A feast of fresh oysters, smoked mussels, duck pancakes, johnnycakes and more is happening at the Feast of Wampanoag Culture at the Pilgrim Monument and Provincetown Museum on May 26.
The menu is prepared by Wampanoag Chef Jade Galvin, of Sly Fox Den caterers of Mashpee, with entertainment from the Wampanoag Nation Singers and Dancers.
Founded in 1985, the Wampanoag Nation Singers and Dancers believe in education by sharing their culture and guests are invited to join the dancing with traditional rattles and water drums.
The community favorite was a sell-out last year, attracting visitors from across Cape Cod.
The event runs from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. and tickets are $20 for museum members, $25 for non-members and children under 14 are free when accompanied by adult guests.
Dedicated in 1910, the Monument commemorates the first landing of the Mayflower Pilgrims in the ‘new world’ in Provincetown in 1620.
It is where they signed the historic Mayflower Compact, the first agreement to establish a government by the people, a cornerstone of American democracy.
Pilgrims explored the Cape for five weeks before sailing on to Plymouth.
The museum at the base of the Monument presents exhibitions of important chapters of national heritage and the town’s history.
