Prescribed Burns Today at Camp Edwards

BOURNE – The National Guard will be conducting another prescribed burn today at Camp Edwards, the burns began over the weekend.

The primary objective of the burns is for conservation management and restoration of scrub oak and other fauna and flora.

The practice also reduces the risk of wildfires and also acts as a training operation for soldiers and firefighters.

Officials say the bruns are also a component of promoting  managing the pine barrens and help promote a healthy ecosystem.
