Proposed Bourne Dog Park Moving Forward

Bourne Town Hall

BOURNE – The idea for a dog park in Bourne has garnered supports from hundreds of residents, and the project may be closure to fruition.

Bourne Town Administrator Tom Guerino recently updated town officials on the progress.

Five sites have been identified for park including Chester Park at Monument Beach; an area near the Monument Beach fire station; an area near the Hoxie School in Sagamore; an area off Barlows Landing Road in Pocasset; and an area of town forest near the Bourne Water Department.

When the process began more than two years ago, the site near the water department was the most preferred, however regulations regarding endangered species rendered the site unusable.

These regulations however, have changed.

“Those rules and regulations and those guidelines have been changed and that line for those endangered species has been moved which allows for a sufficient amount of property to be used for the park,” Guerino said.

There is no timeline on when the project would be launched, and it’s likely that Community Preservation funds would be used to get the project off the ground.
