WOODS HOLE – Pulitzer Prize winner Geraldine Brooks will explore “Hearing King David: Listening for Lost Voices in Historical Fictions” at the next MBL Falmouth Forum on November 11 at 7:30 PM in the Marine Biological Laboratory’s Lillie Auditorium in Woods Hole.
The event, sponsored by the MBL Associates, is free and open to the public.
Brooks will discuss her most recent novel, “The Secret Chord” set in Second Iron Age Israel, and how her former career as Mideast correspondent for The Wall Street Journal helped recover the voices from this distant time and place.
The Australian-born Brooks grew up in Sydney and worked as a reporter for The Sydney Morning Herald and The Wall Street Journal, where she covered crises in the Mideast, Africa, and the Balkans.
She was awarded the Pulitzer Prize in fiction in 2006 for her second novel, “March.”
Her novels “Caleb’s Crossing” and “People of the Book” were New York Times best sellers.
Her first novel, “Year of Wonders,” is an international bestseller, translated into more than 25 languages and currently optioned for a major motion picture starring Andrew Lincoln.
An optional dinner will precede the lecture at 6:00 PM in the Swope Conference Center.
