Report: Baker got Re-election Boost from Super PAC Spending

BOSTON (AP) — Republican Gov. Charlie Baker’s re-election campaign got a big boost from independent expenditure political action committees — also known as super PACs.

A report by the state Office of Campaign and Political Finance released this week found that super PACs spent about $6.8 million to support or oppose candidates in last year’s state election.

Nearly all of that — about 97 percent — went to support Baker.

Of the nine super PACs that were active in the election, the Commonwealth Future super PAC reported spending the most — about $6.2 million, all of which supported Baker.

The Commonwealth Future super PAC was almost entirely funded by the Washington-based Republican Governors Association.

The next highest super PAC total was from Patients for Affordable Drugs Action, which spent $480,000 to support Baker.
