Road Work to Begin Next Week on Sea Street in Hyannis

HYANNIS – The Barnstable Department of Public Works is scheduled to reconstruct the pavement on Sea Street next week.

The work will take place from Nautical Road to the northern end of Oak Neck Road beginning the week of March 25th, depending on weather and other factors.

The work is expected to last roughly two weeks and will be taking place between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m., Monday through Saturday.

The pavement reconstruction will involve a process called full-depth reclamation, where large equipment is used to pulverize and mix the existing asphalt and underlying gravel base, and then to grade and compact the resulting material to form a suitable base for the new pavement.

After that phase is completed, it will be paved over with asphalt. Vehicles can drive on the compacted material until the asphalt is placed.

Businesses and residences along the work zone will remain accessible to traffic throughout the work.  The work will be performed using single lane closures when possible, with police directing traffic past the work area. Detours will be provided where appropriate.

The equipment used to perform this work will be loud and will create vibrations that may be felt by residents and others in this area. The contractor, Robert B. Our Company, is required to implement dust control measures.

The work will include pavement reconstruction for distances of about 10 feet to 50 feet at the ends of side streets where they intersect Sea Street.

Traffic during construction operations will be delayed and motorists are advised to seek alternate routes to avoid the construction work.

As always, the DPW asks drivers to slow down and use extreme caution when traveling through the road construction areas and detour routes.
