Sandwich Art Alliance New Location Now Open

SANDWICH – The Sandwich Art Alliance celebrated the grand opening of their new home with a ribbon cutting ceremony Friday.

Located at 124 Route 6-A in Sandwich, the new building gives the Art Alliance a permanent space for the first time in its history.

“Well we’ve been homeless, this is our fourth year of doing programs but we’ve had to do them all around town, classes over at the library, concerts over at Town Hall, we just kind of used space around town,” said Joanne Westerhouse, the Director of Development for SAA.

“It’s so different, finally, for the first time to have our own home because the members are dropping in and they were just amazed that they can finally come some place and talk to each other.”

The new building will house a large art gallery which will also function as a venue for meet & greets, new member welcomes, author talks and staged readings.

There will also be two classrooms for the Alliance’s adult and youth classes, which along with theatric, musical and artistic events throughout the year, have become an important staple of the SAA’s role in the community.

“We can finally have more than one class at a time, we’ve never been able to have evening classes, we’ve never had a place for our authors to sell books or our musicians to sell CD’s, so we think it will mean a lot for our artist but also for our community,” Westerhouse continued.

Barnstable District Representative Randy Hunt cut the ribbon at Friday’s event alongside representatives from the organizations whose support made the new location possible.
