SANDWICH – The Sandwich Chamber of Commerce broke ground on its new welcome center off Route 130 in Sandwich on Tuesday.

The 1,000 square foot facility will serve visitors to Sandwich and will include restrooms and chamber offices and will be open year-round.

State Representative Randy Hunt and Board of Selectman Chair Frank Pannorfi attended the ceremony.

“Having more space, more room to show things and for it to also be the Sandwich Chamber of Commerce Headquarters, makes a whole lot of sense,” said Hunt. “People that have questions that go beyond just the brochures that they get will also be able to get answers.”

Crews have removed trees and debris in the area of the new facility and will begin working on building it soon to have it ready by late fall or early winter.

The existing information center will remain open during construction.

“I think when you see something like this, you’re encouraged to kind of come here and stop, so it’s a win, win I see for entire community and the chamber,” said Pannorfi.
