Science in the Street Festival Put Focus on STEM Programming

WEST BARNSTABLE – Cape Cod Community College hosted their annual Science in the Street Festival yesterday.

The free event serves as a day-long immersion into how science, technology, engineering, and math come into play in real life right on Cape Cod.

“We call it the STEM Emersion,” said Kristen Kibblehouse, the STEM Events Coordinator for the Cape Cod Regional Stem Network, “So if don’t know, STEM is the acronym for science, technology, engineering, and math, so we had 23 exhibitors here all throughout Cape Cod that specialize in those things.”

The family-friendly event included opportunities for participants to build structures, explore chemistry, experience Lego robotics, and launch rockets.

Exhibitors at the program included the 4C’s engineering and aviation maintenance technology programs, the Cape Cod Technology Council, Cape Cod Makers, The National Marine Life Center, Empow Studios, the Woods Hole Research Center, and many more.

Kibblehouse says that STEM programming is important for the future, “Times are changing, when I was in school you had science class and you had math class, but it really is all interdisciplinary. So that’s why they created STEM and also STEAM which throws in art in there.”
