“This isn’t an arrival, this isn’t a finality. A few people told me ‘you finally made it, you are finally there!’ I’m not anywhere, this is just day one of another part of a journey, another chapter of the book that we have to write. It’s not me that is going to do it, it’s going to be us,” says Sonnabend.
After the ceremony, Chief Sonnabend spoke about the new plans that he hopes to roll out and work on at the Department; “Right now, we’ll continue [to monitor] the homelessness issues, the opiate epidemic, and obviously school safety is a hot button topic since Parkland, and just generally keeping up with staffing and stuff like that. The day to day and supporting the men and women that work here, and give them the working environment and tools that they need to go out and do their jobs,” says Sonnabend.
Sonnabend was one of two candidates that placed first on the Police Chief Eligibility List and has served in the U.S. Army Military Police, Falmouth, and Barnstable Police Departments, spanning 21 years of law enforcement experience.
He takes over for Chief Paul MacDonald who retired this spring.
