TISBURY – Selectmen in Tisbury have given approval to a proposed three day music fest in the Martha’s Vineyard town.
The vote was 2-0 with Selectman Tristan Israel abstaining. While the Board considered the idea it heard from both opponents and supporters of the idea, according to the MV Times.
One of the main objections is the number of people the event would attract, given the already busy nature of the town during the height of the August tourist season.
In addition, the venue for the festival was criticized, with opponents saying Veterans Park is subject to flooding and the amount of foot traffic involved could cause damage to the area.
A representative for the promoter, Peter Sawyer, of Innovation Arts and Entertainment, says the park would be left in condition as good or better than it was found.
Although tacit approval by the board was given, Town Administrator Jay Grande says logistical considerations are still being negotiated with the promoter.
