OAK BLUFFS – A bus driver on Martha’s Vineyard who failed to stop for a waiting rider has been fired for telling the person the reason he didn’t stop was because the person was black, according to a statement from the VTA.

On Wednesday afternoon the passenger was waiting on beach road when the bus failed to stop.

The bus was at capacity but the driver failed to put up the sign indicating this.

The passenger took an Uber to Oak Bluffs and confronted the driver.

According to the statement the driver initially said the bus was at capacity, but when pressed, told the person the reason he didn’t stop was because the person was black.
