Wellfleet Voters Approve Land Purchase, Town Budget, Among Other Items

        Wellfleet Town Hall

WELLFLEET – Wellfleet voters approved the biggest item on that town’s town meeting warrant last night, a $7.5 million dollar debt exclusion for a dredging project in the form of a 15 year loan.

The money will also need to be approved at town election on Monday.

Also approved was the purchase of about 200 acres of tidal land currently owned by a realty trust located off Indian Neck for $2 million. The land will be used for aquaculture.

The final cost to the town will be $1 million, thanks to an anonymous donation for $1 million toward the purchase, which must also be approved at town election.

Voters also approved the hiring of two new firefighters at a combined cost of about $168,000 annually as wells as the town’s $19 million budget for fiscal year 2020.

Residents failed to get through the entire warrant last night, however, so Wellfleet Town Meeting will continue tonight at 6.
