Yarmouth Receives $400,000 State Grant For Route 28 Park

YARMOUTH – The Town of Yarmouth has received a $400,000 grant from the state in order to help offset costs of purchasing the former Yankee Village Motel.

The Parkland Acquisitions and Renovations for Communities grant is designed to assist cities and towns in acquiring and developing land for park and outdoor recreation purposes.

Yarmouth residents voted last year to use Community Preservation Funds to purchase of the property for conservation and passive recreation purposes.

Under the town’s plan all existing structures will be demolished, and the property will be connected with the two adjacent Town-owned pocket parks with a walkway.

Site improvements will consist of low plantings and invasive species removal with the aim of providing residents and visitors with a scenic vista overlooking Mill Creek and improve water quality through a reduction in septic flow.

Officials describe the park as an important component of the Town’s economic development efforts and will add value to existing properties and improve quality of life.
