CapeCod.com’s Athletes of the Week: Galanek, Miller, DiCecco

1-26-15 Capecod.com Athletes of the WeekAs Cape Cod high schools teams begin vying for postseason spots, this past week has seen some tremendous efforts and performances at every turn, so many it’s almost impossible to select just one Capecod.com Athlete of the Week. Thus, this week we had little choice but to select three local student-athletes: Taylor Miller, Andrew Galanek and Jenni DiCecco. Falmouth’s DiCecco, only a sophomore, has proven one of the region’s top point guards this winter, averaging 13.2 points per game. Miller, perhaps the top center in Southeastern Massachusetts, is averaging 15.8 points per game and 12.7 rebounds. In a stunning come-from-behind win versus Marshfield that maintained the Clipper girls’ unbeaten record at 13-0, Miller poured in 18 points and took down 11 rebounds while DiCecco scored 15 points had seven rebounds, seven assists and four steals. Miller also blocked eight shots. Galanek, who has loomed largely in the shadows behind Sandwich upperclassmen like Joey Downes and Hank O’Brien, scored a game-high 28 points last weekend in an incredible, 99-63 rout over Bishop Stang and that on the heels of a 19-point, six rebound performance against D-Y. Galanek has proven an invaluable cog in the Blue Knights’ Basketball Machine. For their efforts, Miller, DiCecco and Galanek are this week’s Capecod.com Athletes of the Week.
