Lady Lions Post Perfect Court Game Against Mashpee; Nauset Warrior, Vineyard Girls Roll

MASHPEE — When you’re feeling it, you’re feeling it.

Thus was the case Friday afternoon at Mashpee High School when the visiting St. John Paul II Lady Lions girls’ tennis team staged a clean sweep of the host Falcons in a 5-0 tennis match-up and each of the Lions’ girls and doubles teams won all sets, 6-0. St. John Paul II is now 4-5 on the season, while the Mashpee girls fell to 0-5.

“In the singles positions, Haylee (Whiteley) played with amazing consistency and placement, Emily’s (Canzano) heavy spin and fantastic footwork brought her to a quick victory and Allison’s shot selection and clear mind for the game was evident throughout,” said head coach Katie Dombrowski. “Jacqueline (Germani) and Rachel (McLellan) moved beautifully as a team and were able to set up quick and clean points and Julia (Grady) and Grace (Sohoel-Goldberg)  dominated their opponents and match.”

In number one singles, senior co-captain Haylee Whiteley defeated Mashpee’s Paulina Remis Serna 6-0, 6-0, followed by an identical win at number two singles by junior co-captain Emily Canzano who beat Caroline Henley, 6-0, 6-0. At number three singles, sophomore Allison Santos wrapped up the singles bracket nicely with a win over Falcon Rory Sullivan, 6-0, 6-0.

In doubles play, St. John Paul II’s senior co-captain Jacqueline Germani and junior Rachel McLellan beat Emily Kelleher and Maia Fudala, 6-0, 6-0, in the number one slot while in the number two slot,  Sophomore Julia Grady and junior Grace Sohoel-Goldberg downed Alexia Santos and Sylvia Anahi-Medina, 6-0, 6-0).

“The St. John Paul II girls’ tennis played a perfect game against Mashpee today,” Dombrowski added. ” Not only was there a win at all positions, but every player won their match 6-0, 6-0.”

St. John Paul II returns to action Monday (May 4) against Nauset at Eldredge Park.

Nauset Warriors Follow Dadoly Sisters’ lead, Defeat Dennis-Yarmouth Dolphins

Orleans — The Nauset Regional High School girls’ tennis team continued its winning ways Friday afternoon at the Orleans Elementary School and defeated the visiting Dennis-Yarmouth Dolphins, 4-1.

Nauset senior co-captain and number one singles player Allie Dadoly set the tone with a win over D-Y’s Tess Ciacrcia, 6-1, 6-0, followed by sister Nika Dadoly who defeated Laryssa Dumont in a well-played net battle, 7-5, 7-5, at the number two slot.

At number three singles, it was Nauset’s Haley Navarro who beat Taylor McDowell, 6-1, 6-1.

In number one doubles action, Nauset senior co-captains Anna Godshalk and Haley Benz downed Virginia Lie and Rebecca Khachikian, 6-1, 6-2.

At number two doubles, the Dolphins got a huge boost from Victoria Liu and Melina Behnke who de feated Sonja Berquist and Caroline Donoghue,  6-0, 6-0. Nauset remains unbeaten at 4-0 in the Atlantic Coast League and is 7-1 overall.

The Warriors hit the road Monday (May 4) to face the tough-to-beat St. John Paul II Lady Lions at 4:00 pm.

Martha’s Vineyard Ladies Net Another Key Win Over Somerset-Berkeley

The Martha’s Vineyard girls’ tennis team remained undefeated Friday afternoon with a 5-0 blanking over Somerset-Berkeley.

First singles stalwart Samantha Potter defeated Kelsey Gray, 6-1, 6-0, followed by a win from Kat Roberts at number two singles over Corrine Morhy, 6-0, 6-0. At third singles, Lizzie Williamson defeated Melanie Wong, 6-0, 6-1.

In first doubles action, Charlotte Potter and Josie Iadicicco defeated Baila Mir and Emma Luke,  6-0, 6-2, and second doubles team Avery Hazell and Madison McBride took down Alyssa Berube and Rachel Santos 6-4, 6-2.

The Vineyarders hope to keep their stellar win streak alive Monday (May 4) when they face Bishop Feehan on the road at 4:00 pm.
