EASTHAM – The Cape Cod National Seashore will celebrate the National Park Service Centennial with a Seashore Science Day Thursday.

The multi-part event will begin at 10 a.m. at the center on Nauset Road with an outdoor science street fair. The fair will emphasize hands-on interactive presentations by seashore staff and will feature events for children.

From 1 to 4 p.m., the 6th Annual Science in the Seashore Symposium will take place, also at the center. It will consist of scientists revealing the results and implications of their studies regarding the region, including presentations on seals, ticks and climate change.

Science Communication Biotech Christopher Green said that the day will also allow the public to better understand the work that the Cape Cod National Seashore conducts.

“We want to show people how much work we do trying to understand our natural and cultural resources and how we use that knowledge to protect these resources for people now and into the future,” he said.

The seashore was established in 1961 by then President John F. Kennedy. The National Park Service was founded on August 25th, 1916 by Congress through the National Park Service Organic Act.
