HYANNIS – For the second time in as many nights, the Barnstable High School wrestling team (8-7) fell short as the visiting Plymouth North Blue Eagles took home the win, 39-36.
The Red Raiders fell to Bridgewater-Raynham the previous night at home in the Old Colony League Championship match.

Barnstable High celebrated its senior wrestlers last night – Donnie Mach, Charlie McWilliams and Owen Murray – but the Red Raiders lost to Plymouth North, 39-36.

Last night, senior co-captain Owen Murray maintained his unbeaten streak this season when he pinned North’s Drew Ufrazio in the heavyweight class, but it was not enough as the guests garnered just enough points to squeeze by the hosts.
Barnstable’s Joey Ciliberto picked up his first-ever varsity win to start the night out on the right foot when he pinned North’s Brendan Pereira in the 106-lb. division.
Junior stalwart Casey Connor followed two bouts later by pinning Theo Anninos in the 126-lb. class.
Ciliberto’s older brother Vinny Cilberto (138), Ben Potts (145) and senior co-captain Charlie McWilliams (152) staged three straight mat victories for the Red & White but then North took four straight bouts to move ahead.
Barnstable senior co-captain Donnie Mach (220) pinned North’s C.J. Burt, followed by Murray’s win, but the victories were not enough to overcome the deficit.
Murray finished the regular season at a perfect 26-0 while Mach finished at 25-6.
Barnstable will head to Weymouth Saturday to start the postseason at the Division 1 South sectional tournament (the top four wrestlers in each weight class move on to the Division 1 State Tournament).
