New details: Homeowner escapes serious injury after fire damages house in Dennis


DENNIS – Dennis Fire reports that a home owner escaped serious injury when firefighters responded to a house fire 8 Clarway at 7:30pm. Upon arrival firefighters found fire ripping up the rear of the single-story ranch style house. The fire was spotted by a neighbor who called the fire department. The home was occupied at the time by owner Thelma Pageau who stated she heard “some popping sounds”.

The fire engulfed a gas meter and electrical meter on the rear of the building. The fire then extended into the kitchen area and up into the attic by the time firefighters extinguished the blaze.

The owner was evaluated at the scene by paramedics and refused any other services. No firefighters were hurt during the fire.

The home has an assessed value of over $300,000 and suffered significant damage.

Initial investigation is leaning towards careless disposal. The fire does not appear to be suspicious at this time.

The Yarmouth fire department assisted at the scene while Harwich fire department handled some medical calls in town at the time of the fire.
