Boil water order issued in Onset

ONSET – From Onset Water Department: The state DEP has issued a boil order for the entire Onset Fire District till further notice!!! The water has been tested and resampled and have come back with total coliforms present. Please work with us and allow us to do what we can to remedy this situation as soon as possible. We apologize for all the inconveniences this may bring. Please stay tuned!!!

Coliforms are bacteria that are naturally present in the environment and are used as an indicator that other, potentially harmful, waterborne pathogens maybe present or that a potential pathway exists through which contamination may enter the drinking water distribution system. We found coliforms indicating the need to look for potential problems in water treatment or distribution. When this occurs, we are required to conduct assessment(s) to identify any problems that were found during these assessments.

“We are taking corrective actions, including chlorination and flushing of the system. Following the corrective actions, we will collect additional samples for total coliform analysis and will be conducting the assessment as required. This is not an emergency. If it had been, you would have been notified immediately. We are in contact with MassDEP who is evaluating the actions we are taking to ensure safe water is being delivered to you. If a risk of contamination exists, you will receive additional notification.”

Effective 3:30pm, 5-15-2019- Onset Water District users: Per the MASS DEP the boil water order in the Onset Water District has been lifted.
