New details: Crews battle house fire in Falmouth

FALMOUTH – Fire crews were called to a house fire in Falmouth sometime before 2:30 PM Saturday afternoon. Heavy smoke and flames were showing from the residence at 24 Lake Shore Drive North on arrival. An aggressive attack got the fire quickly under control. Mutual aid from Bourne, Mashpee and Cotuit also responded to the scene. There were no reports of injuries. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Falmouth Fire-Rescue reports that around 2:15 PM, Engine 25, Engine 21, Engine 24, Ladder 26, Car 12, and Car 28 were dispatched to a reported structure fire at 24 Lakeshore Drive North in the Pinecrest Beach area of town. Neighbors reported a large fire but stated nobody was home. An off-duty firefighter arriving on the scene first reported heavy fire on the structure’s right side and rear side. Engine 25 was on location and advanced a 2-1/2” attack line to the rear of the structure to knock down the large volume of fire. Engine 25’s crew also advanced a 1-3/4” attack line to the right side of the structure and once the heavy fire was knocked down they began an aggressive interior attack on the fire. Engine 21’s crew advanced a second 2-1/2” attack line to the left side of the structure to protect a neighboring structure. Ladder 26 advanced the ladder to the roof and supported the interior attack by opening the roof up to allow ventilation in support of the interior attack. Engine 22, Ambulance 38, and Joint Base Cape Cod Engine 407 were dispatched to the scene around 2:30 to complete the working fire assignment. The interior fire was knocked down around 2:40 PM and overhaul operation commenced. Shortly after 3:00 PM command requested one additional engine to the scene to assist, this brought Cotuit Engine 265 to the scene in support. The overhaul was completed around 4:15 PM./ The Fire Investigation began with Falmouth Fire Rescue, Falmouth Police Department Investigators along with Massachusetts State Police Fire Investigators assigned to the State Fire Marshalls Office. Special Signal Association/ Providence Canteen 1 provided rehabilitation support to fire crews on the scene as well. There were no reported injuries. Investigators cleared the scene around 8:00 PM and the fire remains under investigation. Town-wide fire rescue coverage was provided by Bourne Fire Rescue, Mashpee Fire Rescue, Onset Fire Rescue, and Sandwich Fire Rescue.
