Dennis Police to play in charity basketball game

DENNIS – Officers from the Dennis Police Department will be squaring off against the faculty and staff from the Wixon Innovation School in South Dennis on Friday, April 1 in the school’s gym for a fundraising basketball game.

The game started out as a general fundraiser for the schools PTO but those plans changed unexpectedly when on March 17th a long time, and recently retired, teacher from the Dennis Yarmouth Regional School District, Rick Baker, was severely injured in a motor vehicle crash in Dennis. Mr. Baker was flown by medical helicopter from South Dennis to a Boston hospital where he continues to recover from serious injuries.

Mr. Baker is well known for his time as a teacher and as the Town of Dennis Beach Coordinator so the school community moved to make this game a fund raising effort to assist him and his family financially. There will be a 50/50 raffle as well as a raffle for Red Sox tickets. During half-time raffle winners will be announced and there will also be a foul-shooting competition for the kids.

The game will tip-off at 6:00 p.m. at the Wixon Innovation School in South Dennis on Friday, April 1st.  Admission is free and there will be an opportunity to donate at the game.
