Expect traffic delays Sunday for Pan Mass Challenge

CAPE COD – The 40th annual Pan Mass Challenge bike-a-thon is this weekend. The event raises money for life-saving cancer research and treatment at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston.

Riders will arrive at the Mass Maritime Academy Saturday and spend the night before embarking on the Cape Cod leg early Sunday morning. Motorists should expect delays along the route from Bourne to Provincetown.

Some police agencies have posted specific information:

West End Parking Lot

No Parking in the West End Parking Lot spaces in the western part of the lot, look for notices.

Commercial Street

No Parking on Commercial Street in the metered spaces before the Provincetown Inn.
No Parking in the traffic rotary proximate to the Provincetown Inn.

Winslow Street

No Parking on Winslow Street in the metered spaces between the Veterans Memorial Community Center (VMCC) and Jerome Smith Road.

TRURO – The annual Pan-Mass Challenge will bring thousands of cyclists, volunteers, and supporters to Truro on Sunday, August 4th between the hours of 7:00 AM and 2:00 PM, as they head towards Provincetown.

Officers will be placed strategically at various traffic control locations to assist PMC riders and motorists, as this event strongly impacts local traffic. PMC’s goal is to pass through Truro with minimum disruption and inconvenience to the residents and visitors of Truro. PMC cyclists have been asked to ride the route with the utmost safety and consideration for the traffic rules, local residents and motorists.

Motorists are being urged to avoid Truro Center Road and Castle Road, as these roads will experience the most significant traffic congestion. Please be patient.

A one-way traffic flow pattern on Castle Road will be in place to allow cyclists and vehicle traffic to safely turn onto Route 6 from Castle Road. Vehicles will be prohibited from turning onto Castle Road from Route 6. Officers will direct prohibited vehicle traffic to the intersection of Route 6 and Truro Center Road while the one-way traffic flow pattern is in effect.

WELLFLEET – The annual Pan Mass Challenge will bring thousands of bike riders across the cape and through Wellfleet on Sunday. Riders will enter town on the bike path, right onto Lecount Hollow Road, left onto Ocean View Drive, left onto Long Pond Road and a right onto Lawrence Road for a rest stop at the elementary school. After a short break they will turn right onto Rt. 6 and continue into Truro.

Officers will be strategically placed to assist with traffic. However with this many cyclists and motorists we do expect congestion and ask for their patience. Motorists are urged to avoid Long Pond Road. Lawrence Road will be closed in the morning till early afternoon.

EASTHAM – On Sunday August 4th, 2019 from 7:00 am until approximately 11:30 am, bike riders will be traveling through Eastham as part of the annual Pan Mass Challenge bike ride.

The riders will enter Eastham on Bridge Rd. and travel to Herring Brook Rd. where they cross over Massasoit Rd. onto Oak Rd. They will then enter Route 6. One northbound lane of Route 6 will be closed to traffic to provide the bikers a place to ride. This closure will span from Route 6 at Brackett Road to Route 6 at Railroad Ave. Riders will enter the Cape Cod Rail Trail at Nauset Rd. and Railroad Ave. and continue to Provincetown where the event concludes.

Police Officers will be assigned along the route but motorists are asked to be conscious of the riders and to expect delays from Brackett Rd. northbound on Route 6. This is the 40th year of this charity ride where funds are raised for the Dana Farber Cancer Institute for cancer research.

ORLEANS – On Sunday, August 4th between the hours of 7 am and 11 am, the Pan-Mass Challenge bike ride will be rolling through town. The riders will emerge from Salty Ridge Road from the bike path, onto West Road. They will ride West Road to Skaket Beach Road, turning right onto Skaket Beach Road. From there they turn left onto Rock Harbor Road, to the Harbor then towards Bridge Road. The riders then turn onto Bridge Road, and into Eastham. Please use caution when approaching these intersections, as riders may be in large groups. Officers will be stationed to assist merging traffic at intersections. 2019 marks the 40th year this charity ride has raised money for cancer research for the Dana Farber institute. Expect some minor delays, and please be kind to one another!

BREWSTER – Reminder that Sunday August 4th, the Pan Mass Challenge bike ride will be passing through Brewster. Thousands of cyclists raising money for the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute will be hitting the streets of Brewster between 6am and 10am as they make their way towards the finish line in Provincetown.

The course comes into town from Dennis on Satucket Road, merges into Stonybrook Road and then heads out onto Route 6A to Nickerson State Park. Please allow extra time and use extra caution if traveling in this area.
