Five arrested in separate drug raids in Falmouth

FALMOUTH – Falmouth Police report that on Thursday at approximately 5:30 a.m. a search warrant was conducted at two locations in East Falmouth. Falmouth Police detectives, along with Mashpee Police detectives, Barnstable County K-9 officers and members of the Massachusetts State Police Cape & Islands Drug Task entered the homes at 20 Waquoit Farms Drive and 14 Leonard Drive.

At 20 Waquoit Farms Drive officers found approximately 10 grams of cocaine. Arrested from the residence were Robert Labaire, Cedric Andrews and Shawna Costa. All three were arrested for possession of a class B substance with intent to distribute and conspiracy to violate the controlled substance act. Labaire was additionally arrested for two outstanding arrest warrants, failing to appear and a Florida warrant for possession of cocaine.

At 14 Leonard Drive officers located 65 grams of heroin, 10 grams of cocaine, assorted prescription pills and $5,169 in cash. Arrested from the home were Preston Hendricks and Crystal Costa. They were both arrested for trafficking in heroin, possession of cocaine with intent to distribute and conspiracy to violate the controlled substance act. Also in the residence was a six-year-old child.

Both residences are believed to be part of a large-scale narcotics distribution operation. It is a common practice for such operations to use two houses in order to minimize the risk of detection by police. In such operations, a primary house is often used to store the narcotics and cash proceeds, while a secondary “trap” house is used for the majority of the transactions. This investigation took place over the course of the last two months and involved controlled purchases of narcotics from this distribution operation.
