YARMOUTH – In partnership with Town Taxi of Cape Cod and Learn to Cope, the Yarmouth Police Department has created a new program that will help family members of people addicted to opioids receive help and support.
Beginning tonight, Tuesday, September 12, 2017 Operation Rides for Hope will provide a free ride to and or from the weekly Learn to Cope group meetings held here every Tuesday night starting at 7PM in our Community Room designed for anyone who may not have transportation.
The program will be anonymous—open to anyone in the Mid-Cape area—and will be funded by private donations starting with a $1,000 donation from Global Philanthropist and Real Estate Developer Kristen Williams-Haseotes of Naples, Florida..
The YPD received this message through social media last Tuesday morning that led to this innovative idea:
Hi, I wanted to go to the Learn to Cope meeting tonight with everyone dying around me and my worries about certain family and friends. I think it’d really help me find support and guidance.
If I can’t find a ride is there someone that offers rides by any chance? I just lost a friend and one of my closest friends lost someone 4 days later. I really have wanted to go to a meeting for Learn to Cope and need advice.
In case I can’t get a ride is there anyone that offers rides to and from the meetings?
The Yarmouth Police Department responded to the woman and has now created this program in cooperation with Town Taxi of Cape Cod and Learn to Cope officials.
Anyone from the towns of Yarmouth, Dennis, or Barnstable who needs a ride to and or from the weekly Learn to Cope meetings can call Town Taxi of Cape Cod at 508.775.5555 between 6:30 PM and 9:30 PM and a ride will be provided and paid by private donations.
