SANDWICH – A large blackout was affecting the Upper Cape late Thursday afternoon. Nearly 10,000 homes, mostly in Sandwich, but also in Mashpee and Falmouth were affected. Motorists were navigating blacked out traffic lights along Route 130. There are reports of an underground transformer that may have caught fire in the area of Quaker Meetinghouse Road in Sandwich. By 5:30 p.m. the outage had been reduced to about 3,500 customers. Further details were not immediately available.
