UPDATED: Man injured in floor collapse in Bourne

BOURNE – From Bourne Fire: At 9:09 AM on Tuesday morning, the Bourne Fire/Rescue & Emergency Services Department responded to a report of a person who had fallen through a floor at 805 Scenic Highway. The ambulance arrived to find a male patient in his 50s, who had fallen approximately 10 feet and sustained injuries, and was now in the basement of a vacant building. The ambulance crew began treating and stabilizing the patient and additional personnel were requested to assist with extrication.

The patient was extricated in 30 minutes. A medical helicopter was requested to transport the patient to a trauma center, but due to an extended response time, the decision was made to transport the patient by ground to South Shore Hospital in Weymouth. The building inspector was requested to the scene and in cooperation with the Chief of Department have determined that the building is unsafe, and the fire department will be marking the building with a red X later this afternoon. Eversource was also requested to disconnect power to the property.

During the hour that crews were on scene, the department had three additional requests for medical aid in the Monument Beach area of town. All Bourne Fire personnel were recalled to cover all stations, and Bourne Fire/Rescue, the Falmouth Fire Department and Wareham Emergency Medical Services responded to the additional calls for service.
