Update: No foul play suspected discovery of body at Dowse’s Beach in Osterville

OSTERVILLE – From Centerville-Osterville-Marstons Mills  (COMM) Fire: On Monday at approximately 1:24 PM, Barnstable Police Department received a call of a body floating in the water near the entrance to Dowses Beach, Osterville. The Centerville-Osterville-Marstons Mills Fire Department (COMM) responded with an engine, two ambulances, a small boat, and an incident commander. The first arriving unit discovered two bystanders pointing to a body floating in the water about twenty yards off shore in East Bay near the entrance to Dowses Beach.

The body of a middle aged man wearing waders and heavy winter clothes was pulled ashore by firefighters and Barnstable Police Sergeant Andrew McKenna. CPR and Advance Life Support was initiated by COMM Fire Department Paramedics. The victim was transported to Cape Cod Hospital.

A statement from the Cape & Islands District Attorney’s office said the victim was later pronounced dead. No foul play is suspected at this time. 

At the scene, a partially submerged skiff with shell fishing equipment was located anchored at the entrance to the Centerville River. COMM Fire department personnel, with the assistance of the Barnstable Harbor Masters Office retrieved the boat. The Barnstable Police Department is investigating the incident.
