Mashpee man charged with possession, distributing child pornography

MASHPEEFrom Barnstable Police: On Wednesday, Barnstable Police Detectives, with the assistance of the Barnstable County Sheriff’s Office and the Mashpee Police Department, executed a search warrant on Wampanoag Drive in Mashpee, MA (Mashpee Village Apartments). As a result of the search warrant and on scene investigation, 66 year old Ronald Walsh of Mashpee was arrested and charged with Possession of Child Pornography as well as Distribution of Child Pornography. This search warrant was a result of a Barnstable Police Department ICAC (Internet Crimes Against Children) investigation that spanned several months and focused on a computer at the Wampanoag Drive address that was distributing child pornography images and videos. The on scene investigation revealed at least one computer that had the file sharing software utilized to distribute the child pornography. Several digital devices were seized during the execution of the warrant and are being examined as this investigation continues. Walsh was taken into custody and booked at the Barnstable Police Department, where bail was set at $5,000 cash. NOTE: Walsh is a children’s boating instructor for Boat Safe Massachusetts and at several Cape Cod yacht clubs

On Thursday, Walsh was transported to the Falmouth District Court where he was arraigned on the above charges and then released on personal recognizance, with conditions, by Judge Christopher Welch. Dissemination of Child Pornography carries a minimum mandatory prison sentence of 10 years with a maximum of 20 years. Possession of Child Pornography carries a prison sentence of no more than 5 years.
