Update: Plymouth Fire Chief Neil Foley reports that the Plymouth Fire Department extinguished a house fire on 3 Howland Court yesterday.
On Thursday, June 27, at about 4:04 p.m., the Plymouth Fire Department responded to a call placed by a 16-year-old male resident. Upon arrival, firefighters observed an attached shed on the side of the home engulfed in flames, extending up the side of the wooden frame single-family home.
The male occupant, the only person home at the time, evacuated safely before firefighters arrived.
Crews extinguished the exterior fire. Upon reaching the second floor they found that the fire had extended into the home’s walls and roof.
Firefighters worked to extinguish the flames on the second floor and brought the fire under control in about 30 minutes. Crews remained on the scene for two hours and conducted extensive overhaul to uncover hidden fire. No one was injured.
Carver Fire Department and Kingston Fire Department provided station coverage, handling multiple calls for service. In total, the Carver, Kingston, and Plymouth Fire Departments responded to 12 additional calls while the fire on Howland Court was being extinguished.
“Due to the quick think of the homeowner’s son and calling 911, we were able to quickly control the fire,” Chief Foley said. “On behalf of the Plymouth Fire Department, I thank him for taking action and preventing the fire from spreading and endangering neighbors.”
The three residents are currently displaced and are working with the American Red Cross to obtain temporary housing.
The cause of the fire is not believed to be suspicious in nature and remains under investigation by Plymouth Fire Department.
A short time later an industrial accident was reported on Hiawatha Road. A Bourne ambulance responded to assist for a person reportedly suffering a leg injury from a grinder saw. Further details were not immediately available.
