Sandwich Police offer lockdown training for library staff

aliceSANDWICH – Sandwich Police Officer Christa Cabral, a certified ALICE (Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, Evacuate) instructor, met with the Sandwich library staff last Friday to conduct ALICE lockdown training.

ALICE was first brought into Sandwich Public Schools three years ago.

It is a state recognized enhanced lockdown procedure that focuses on situational awareness, preparedness, and survivability

A similar drill was held Monday at Monomoy Regional High School with Harwich and Chatham Police.

According to the organization’s website,  ALICE Training instructor led classes provide preparation and a plan for individuals and organizations on how to more proactively handle the threat of an aggressive intruder or active shooter event.

Whether it is an attack by an individual person or by a international group of professionals intent on conveying a political message through violence, ALICE Training option based tactics have become the accepted response, versus the traditional “lockdown only” approach.
