CENTERVILLEFrom Barnstable Police: Two Centerville men were arrested last night just hours after an assault on Longview Dr. in Centerville. At the time of the arrest, the suspects, 25-year-old Daniel J. Barnicoat of Centerville and 20-year-old Nicholas J. Miller, of Centerville, were found to be in possession of a stolen firearm.

On Tuesday at about 3:30 pm, the Barnstable Police were called to a Longview Dr. home in Centerville where officers found a 29-year-old Mashpee man who had allegedly been beaten by Barnicoat and Miller. Witnesses told police the victim and the two suspects were co-workers and the fight stemmed from a disagreement the previous day. When the victim showed up at the Centerville home yesterday afternoon, Barnicoat and Miller met him in the front yard and allegedly began to punch and kick him numerous times. As witnesses telephoned the police, Barnicoat and Miller fled in a motor vehicle.

Later the same day at about 7:45 PM, Barnicoat and Miller returned to the home on Longview Dr. where Barnstable Police officers encountered them sitting in a motor vehicle in the driveway. Both Barnicoat and Miller were taken into custody without incident. During the arrest, officers viewed what was identified as a loaded semi-automatic pistol on the vehicles back seat. The weapon had been previously reported stolen in Wareham several months ago. Barnicoat was charged with Assault & Battery by means of a Dangerous Weapon, Assault & Battery, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm and Unlawful Possession of Ammunition. Miller was charged with Assault & Battery by means of a Dangerous Weapon, Assault & Battery, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition and Receiving Stolen Property valued over $1200. Miller also had outstanding warrants for Assault & Battery, Threats and Vandalism out of Barnstable, Assault & Battery on a Family or Household Member and Violation of a Protective Order out of Bridgewater, and seven counts of Violation of a Protective Order, Disorderly Conduct, and Vandalism out of Falmouth. Both Barnicoat and Miller were transported this morning to Barnstable District Court for arraignment.

The victim was transported from Longview Dr. to Cape Cod Hospital where he was treated for what appeared to be cuts, abrasions and contusions to his head and face. He was discharged late this morning.
