Wareham Police seek man accused of jewelry store B&Es who failed to appear after posting bail

Anthony J. Vieira

WAREHAMFrom Wareham Police: The Wareham Police Department is seeking the whereabouts of Anthony J. Vieira, 24, of no certain address. Mr. Vieira was arrested on November 4, by officers of the Wareham Police on a warrant after a foot pursuit. The warrant was obtained as he is suspected with the break and entering into two Wareham jewelry stores. On November 5, the Plymouth County District Attorney’s office requested he be held on $10,000 bail; however that was rejected by Judge Edward Sharkansky who reduced that amount to $3,500. In early December Mr. Vieira was released from jail after making bail. He was due to return to court on January 29 and has defaulted, therefore resulting in arrest warrants being issued for him. In addition he has an active arrest warrant from Fall River District Court for an incident that occurred in that city on January 22.

Acting Chief John Walcek said, “The officers of the Wareham Police Department work very hard to keep the town of Wareham a safe place. They accomplish this through diligent patrols, community interaction, and by arresting people who commit crimes.” He went onto to say, “On a chilly Sunday morning in November several officers pursued Mr. Vieira who aggressively tried to escape their dragnet and now here we are again looking for this man who is already a convicted felon.” Finally he said, “Although the DA’s office requested a high bail a judge rejected that and my concern is not only for the safety of my officers but the safety of the public.”

If you know where Mr. Vieira is do not approach him and call 911.
