The Bourne Scallop Fest

Information on the Bourne Scallop Fest

The 45th Bourne Scallop Fest will be held the weekend of September 19th on the Cape Cod side of the bridge this year at the Cape Cod Fairgrounds in East Falmouth.  Over four decades ago, with the intention of attracting tourists and entertaining the local community, fishermen decided to host a Scallop Festival in Buzzards Bay Park. Today, the Cape Cod Canal Region Chamber expects 50,000 people to attend this festival that features famous scallop dinners, herb roasted chicken dinners, clam chowder, lobster rolls, burgers, salads, fried dough and more!Friend

The scallop and herb roasted chicken dinners are prepared by J & J Concessions, owned by Roger & Hope Pinard of Lakeville, Massachusetts. The couple has been cooking for the Scallop Fest for the past 12 years, and their new trailer holds 17 fryers to cook the estimated 5,000 pounds of scallops, 2,000 pieces of chicken and 3,000 pounds of french fries expected to be sold during the festival.

Over three tons of scallops are deep fried and served with cole slaw and rolls, and the food court features American dinner favorites, as well as strawberry shortcake, pies, ice cream and other desserts.  Captain Parker’s Pub will be providing its award winning clam chowder.

For entertainment, Rockwell Amusements will provide rides and games for kids, sharing their family tradition of dedication to fun and excellence. Rides and activities include bungee jumping, bumper cars and a Ferris wheel. In addition to all the food and various games, Castleberry Fairs and Festivals will host the Arts and Crafts Show of American made arts, crafts, and specialty foods, where fine olive oils, jams, sea glass artwork, jewelry are popular items sold by the vendors.

Live entertainment will be provided by The United States Coast Guard Academy Cadet Glee Club and the Northeast Navy Show Band performing patriotic music and songs of the sea, and the popular band, ENTRAIN, will takeover the main stage at 7 pm on Saturday night. All performances can be enjoyed as part of the general admission price of $6 per person, children 6-12 $2, and kids 5 and under, free!

This three day community event would not be possible without the hundreds of volunteers and sponsors who contribute their time and effort. Cape Cod Life recently awarded the Scallop Fest the “Best Festival Award.” Also named one of the Top 100 Events in North America for the past four years by the American Bus Association, New England’s largest Scallop Festival will be held Friday, September 19th through Sunday, September 21st.  From 10 am to 9 pm, Friday and Saturday, and Sunday, 10 am to 6 pm, the festival will be held rain or shine at the Cape Cod Fairgrounds’ more spacious venue.

Tents are set up for dining and craft exhibits.  Group Dinner Tickets are $19 per person, which includes admission, dinner, soda, and taxes for tour groups. Beer and wine are available for additional purchase. Profits from the Scallop Fest help support four local schools, food pantries, the Bourne Council on Aging and two visitor centers that serve as public amenities for traveling motorists.
