Citizens Bank Pops by the Sea: Pre-Show Lineup 2015

Arts Foundation of Cape Cod Announces Pre-Show Performers for 30th Annual Citizens Bank Pops by the Sea

Favorite Local Musicians to Entertain Thousands on the Hyannis Village Green

Some of Cape Cod’s most popular performers will open the 30th Annual Citizens Bank Pops by the Sea concert on Sunday, August 9, 2015. Steve Morgan & the Kingfish, Cerise Bynoe & The Charlie Jamieson Trio and the CrabGrass Bluegrass Band will perform on the permanent stage at the Hyannis Village Green prior to the Boston Pops Esplanade Orchestra taking the main stage at 5 pm.

Steve Morgan & the Kingfish will kick off the pre-show entertainment when the gates open at 1pm with their original classic sounding R&B, Cerise Bynoe & the Charlie Jamiseon Trio will perform at 2pm adding a touch of jazz to the day and the CrabGrass Bluegrass band will take the stage at 3pm with their traditional Americana sound.

According to David Kaplan, Executive Director of the Arts Foundation, “Pops by the Sea doesn’t just feature one of the best loved orchestras in the world, but also some of the best loved Cape Cod bands who entertain the waiting audiences all afternoon with a diverse mix of music.”

The CrabGrass Bluegrass Band has been performing traditional bluegrass music with a contemporary flair since the ’90s. The band’s tight vocal harmonies and instrumentals are always highly entertaining. Come on out and enjoy a true bluegrass music experience, CrabGrass style. CrabGrass is comprised of Les Beavan on banjo, Chris Miner on mandolin, Dan Fortier on guitar, and Rick Sweeney on bass.

Talented and soulful, Cerise Bynoe shares powerful vocals backed by traditional jazz power trio Charlie Jamieson (piano), Rich Hill (bass), and Phil Vitali (drums). She sings in the style of Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, and Sarah Vaughn, but look also for Latin numbers (in Spanish), some R&B, and a taste of the Blues.

Steve Morgan and the Kingfish were the winners of the 2015 Arts Foundation of Cape Cod Spring Talent Search and have been playing music on Cape Cod since 1992, but the band really found its niche in 2008 when they began playing Steve’s original classic sounding R&B songs, set apart by their definitive chord and harmonic structures. The band is led by guitarist Steve Morgan and also features Ed Wanamaker on drums, vocalist and percussionist Bryant Edwards, bassist Roe Osbarn, keyboard player Pete Mann and Paul Lesniak on tenor saxophone.

The Citizens Bank Pops by the Sea concert will be held on Sunday, August 9, 2015, on the Hyannis Village Green. The annual concert features the only Cape Cod appearance of the Boston Pops Esplanade Orchestra and this year will feature celebrity guest conductors Charlie Gibson, Connie Chung and Maury Povich.

Proceeds from the August 9 concert enable the Arts Foundation to fulfill its mission to support, promote, stengthen and celebrate the arts and culture of Cape Cod year-round. The Arts Foundation of Cape Cod, Barnstable County’s regional arts agency, provides artistic, cultural, and educational programs in every town on Cape Cod, with an emphasis on supporting arts education initiatives, individual artists, and cultural organizations throughout the year.
