Loren Petisce’s Dark Christmas Shopping Experience

Shopping Cart Full of Christmas Presents

I went Christmas shopping with my girlfriend’s mom last night at Marshall’s in Mashpee. We both love Marshall’s and this particular one, because they always have a lot of good stuff to choose from! We were about an hour into our shopping trip with a full cart, looking at couch throws, when all of the sudden, the store goes pitch black! About ten seconds later, the lights flickered, then went out again completely! There were some tiny lights on, which I figured were from the generator, but they certainly weren’t enough to keep shopping with! Almost immediately, an employee jumped on the intercom and asked all customers to go to the front of the store with what they were intending to purchase. We were so bummed, we were having fun shopping and doing really well getting gifts there!

We made our way to the front of the store in the dark, with all of the other customers. As we did, another announcement was made that there had been an accident which was the reason behind the electricity getting knocked out! Employees were scrambling to get each customers cart in order and keep track for them to be able to come back and purchase everything. Myself and my friend’s mom were trying to come up with a plan for our intended purchases, figuring it would be a few hours before the lights came back on if there had been an accident. Then all of a sudden, boom, the lights were back! We hesitated to make sure it wasn’t temporary and then we were back in business, literally! It was the weirdest thing! We were really glad the lights came back so soon, having to put our stuff back or on hold to retrieve later, would have been a total pain! In the end, I got about 70% of my shopping done and we had fun doing it!
