Big Brothers Big Sisters of Cape Cod & the Island: Meet Jacob
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Cape Cod & the Islands is the only one-to-one youth mentoring organization serving Cape Cod and the Islands and making a difference in the lives of more than 320 children. Before the start of the summer months, the agency is hoping to match 11 year Jacob with a Big Brother. Jacob has been on the wait list for an extended period of time due to a shortage of male volunteers on the upper-Cape.
Jacob lives in Forestdale. He’s very active and loves to try new things and says the best thing about getting a Big Brother would be “to have someone to go outside and play baseball with.” Jacob enjoys being outside and says that he is very much an “outdoors kid.” Some of his favorite things to do are bike riding, baseball, fishing and learning new sports, like Cricket. He would benefit from a Big Brother and the presence of an additional, positive adult in his life to help boost his confidence and help him explore new interests.
Jacob is not alone. There are more than 100 children waiting for mentors on Cape Cod and Martha’s Vineyard. If you are interested in learning more about how to become a mentor, please visit www.bbbsmb.org/cape-cod/volunteer/. Please also consider sharing Jacob’s story to help him and other kids on the wait list find a Big!
