February is almost half over, and there’s no excuse not to get out there and enjoy all the Cape has to offer! This week, visit the open house at the National Marine Life Center, visit some friendly animals at the Cape Cod Museum of Natural History, or check out one of the many live music events and movies all around the region! There is always so much to do!

Through 4/11 Cape Codder Comedy Dinner Shows – The new 2020 Comedy Dinner Show line-up is in the works! The Cape Codder is offering some long-time favorites like Jon Stetson and Comedy on the Road, alongside some exciting new shows like Gaelic vs. Garlic and Happier Days with the Nadlers! 2/15 February Open House: For the Love of Turtles – 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., National Marine Life Center. A fabulous, family-friendly event for the whole family! Enjoy games, refreshments, and make a marine animal valentine during your visit. The Open House is the kickoff to vacation week at the NMLC, which will be hosting classes for the whole family throughout the week focused on different marine creatures from sharks to manatees and more; including seals and sea turtles of course! 2/15 Valentine’s Day Oyster Shucking & Champagne Tasting Class – 1 to 3 p.m. at the Pheasant Restaurant, Dennis. Participants will learn all there is to know about these curiously delicious bivalves called oysters, and most importantly, how to properly and safely shuck them. For this special edition of the class, we will be joined by a champagne expert who will pair several varieties of bubbles with the delicious selection of oysters we will be shucking and tasting. This class is an informational and hands-on lesson. You are guaranteed to successfully shuck and taste a whole bunch of delicious oysters! In addition to champagne – beer, and light snacks will also be provided. 

2/15 Grow Your Own Wedding – 1 p.m., Country Garden, Hyannis. If there’s a wedding in your future, you can learn how to arrange several of the floral elements yourself. Talks on centerpieces, growing your own flowers for the day, and making bouquets will be presented. Cost is $30 per person; advance registration required. 

2/15-2/16 Midwinter Shellfish Bash ‘n’ Hash – Learn more about aquaculture farming, shellfish grants, oyster upweller projects and much more at Cape Cod Maritime Museum, Hyannis. Enjoy a family shellfish-inspired craft workshop on Saturday. Free admission, light snacks and a free gift for children 12 and under. There’s a panel discussion on Sunday and a meet and greet with several local aquaculture experts. Times vary. 

2/16 Amazing Animal Ambassadors – 1 p.m., Cape Cod Museum of Natural History, Brewster. See wild animals up close with Amazing Animal Ambassadors. Meet Boomerang the Kookaburra, Dracula the Great Horned Owl, Jasper the Red Tailed Hawk, Milo the Fennec Fox and Cypress the Tenrec, which looks like a hedgehog, but the two are surprisingly unrelated. Also on display will be an amazing assortment of smaller reptiles and insects. This will be fun for the whole family! 

2/20 Acrobat Performance with Li Lui – 1 p.m. at the West Barnstable Fire Department, 2160 Meetinghouse Way. Li Lui was born in China and has been performing her amazing show in the United States since 2000. The performance will include hand balancing, plate spinning, trick cycling, foot juggling and ribbon dancing. She will also touch on aspects of Chinese language, geography and culture. Children will have a chance to try some of the skills such as ribbon dancing and basic plate spinning. This event is free and open to the public. She will also be at the Mashpee Public Library at 4 p.m. These events are presented by Barnstable Libraries.  

2/22/-2/23 The Tonys: Broadway’s Best – The Tony Awards celebrate excellence on Broadway, and we’re highlighting the best of the award winners through the decades at the Barnstable Performing Arts Center, Hyannis. You’ll hear Tony-winning classics like “Seventy-Six Trombones” from The Music Man and “Sit Down, You’re Rockin’ The Boat” from Guys and Dolls; winners from outstanding revivals like CabaretHello Dolly, and Thoroughly Modern Millie; and modern hits from recent years including “You Can’t Stop the Beat” from Hairspray. Guest conductor Peter Mansfield joins us to bring you Broadway’s best. Times vary.

2/23  75th Anniversary of the Heroic Raising of the Flag Over Iwo Jima – 2 p.m., Brewster Fire Department. Come and honor those who gave so much for our freedom. Members of the 145th Marine regiment and veterans from all wars will be represented and honored. Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts and local youth of all ages will be present, and the color guard will raise the flag. Rep. Tim Whelan will be speaking. This event is open to the public.
