Brewster Receives $1.6 Million State Infrastructure Grant

BREWSTER – The MassWorks Infrastructure Program has awarded $1.6 million for a project in Brewster.

The money will be used to complete road and sidewalk work for the Brewster Woods housing project, a proposed 30-unit rental development for those earning 30 to 60 percent of the mean income of the area.

“This grant underscores the importance of towns prioritizing housing and being good partners with us and other housing developers,” said Alisa Magnotta, CEO of the Housing Assistance Corporation.

Magnotta said estimated costs for the work were higher than expected and the town acted quickly to apply for a grant.

Now that the road and sidewalk work funding is secured, Magnotta said progress to achieving an ultimate goal can continue.

“We’re excited to be able to participate and insure that we have a year-round workforce and year-round community on Cape Cod, and in Brewster especially,” she said.

The plan is to extend Brewster Road to provide access to the new units of housing and connect them to existing residencies.

The Baker-Polito administration is awarding over $72 million in MassWorks grants this year.
