HYANNIS – “To the victor go the spoils.”

That’s one message Boston sports fans have become accustomed to over the past 18 years with a climbing total of 12 championship trophies brought home by the city’s professional sports teams.

With the New England Patriots winning the sixth Super Bowl in the franchise’s history just four months after the Boston Red Sox won its fourth World Series since 2004, it certainly can be difficult keeping track of all the hardware.

On Wednesday at Cape Cod Beer in Hyannis, the Boston Red Sox 2018 Championship trophy made its first public appearance since the Sox took home the title in October.

The event was sponsored by the Hyannis Harbor Hawks of the Cape Cod Baseball League and will help raise money for the Hyannis Athletic Association, the non-profit organization behind the Harbor Hawks.

All proceeds from the event will go directly toward the group’s field improvement campaign. The team has already received $715,000 to make upgrades at Judy Walden Scarafile Field at McKeon Park, the home of the Harbor Hawks.

“This is the first public appearance of the 2018 Red Sox Championship trophy. We’re really excited about it. I think everybody is in the mood for a trophy, maybe football, but can quickly switch to baseball. It’s a really exciting night and we’ve had a lot of buzz about this,” said Judy Scarafile.

“The entire field has been redone, so that was about $715,000. Now we’re fundraising to build two dugouts, they bought a new scoreboard and this is just phase one,” she said.

Scarafile said that Phase Two of the project will consist of more improvements to landscaping, handicap access, concession stand and entertainment for kids.

Photo opportunities with the trophy were also provided to attendees, as well as a special giveaway.
