Anti Illegal Immigration Rally Held in Bourne

TOWN MEETING VOTESBOURNE – A rally was held last Saturday at the Bourne Rotary by those opposed to immigration.

The rally was originally organized to protest the possibility that up to 1,000 unaccompanied minor children were to be housed at Joint Base Cape Cod.

Thousands of children have been crossing the southern U.S. border with Mexico from the countries of Honduras, Guatemala and El Salvador to escape poverty and violence.

State Representative Randy Hunt is among those opposed to the nation’s immigration policy. He said he has concerns about any future effort to use the base for that purpose to house immigrants.

“I had questions in regard to all of the guard training that goes on there in the summer and also an issue about the fact that it’s a disaster shelter of last resort for Cape Cod in the event of a hurricane. I felt as though using a thousand beds out of the capacity there could create a problem,” Hunt said.
